"Finding the Pass to Shambhala" digital art by David Memmott

David Memmott will be the featured artist for February at the Blue Turtle Gallery. David graduated from EOU and was a student of Tom Dimond and Ian Gatley. His art was always a little rebellious and he did not always complete the assignments as his professors would have liked. His art has always been and continues to be unique and special.

David spent many years developing his drawing talent using black and colored ink. He later became interested in photography. These interests are the basis for his current art. David does digital art based on his own photographs and drawings. He uses his photos and drawings to discover new forms through layering and texturing. He will take a photo, layer it with a line drawing and blow up part of it using photoshop and other computerized programs, then shrink part and turn the pieces and layer them with other drawings and photos until his design is “right”. It is a very complex and time consuming process resulting in an abstract picture of unusual beauty.

David has been most inflluenced by artists such as Jackson Pollack and Max Ernst. HIs original digital art is very unique and needs to be seen. You will truly appreciate David’s talent when you see his work. Be sure to stop by the Blue Turtle Gallery from February 18 – March 16 to see the most original art in Northeast Oregon.

6th & Penn T:963-5351

The Potter’s House will continue the fun and passion of Valentines day during this month’s Third Thursday Artwalk. We will feature works of art by several of the artists we represent that will tug at the romantic side of your heart. These works will range from jewelry and sculpture to paintings and drawings. Bob will also heat up the night with two raku firing demonstrations at 5:30 and 7:00 pm. The pieces being fired will include lace hearts and roses. Raku roses are not only beautiful and unique but they will last forever without watering or fertilizing. To add further heat and passion to the evening we will be serving samples of a new product for us, SIPPING CHOCOLATE. This is a European favorite which is a delectably rich chocolate drink which is served hot.

We look forward to your visit and wish you a very happy “love” month.

The Mitre’s Touch is pleased to feature the soulful art of Sheyenne Wiggins, whose traditional watercolors include the national award-winning portrait “Sweet Caroline” reproduced for a limited edition wine release by Duplin Wineries last year.

Sheyenne’s newest work includes elements of ink in her watercolors that give them greater dimension and definition. Her skills and heart have always centered on portraits, being fascinated with how the eyes especially reveal the secret person of the heart. She also occupies herself with commissioned portraits of children.

At the same time, Sheyenne has also been developing her skills at digital art, working with both the Sumo Paint online application and Photoshop. Her digital art includes painting fictitious characters from popular movies, as well as famous actors or actresses.

Join us on Third Thursday at the Mitre’s Touch between 5 and 8 p.m. and meet Sheyenne. Enjoy refreshments and browse through a fascinating diversity of watercolors and digital art.
