Shopping Online
Living in La Grande, we don’t have a variety of shopping options. Clothing, electronics, movies, books, video games, make-up, etc. are all difficult to obtain in La Grande. Sure, we have Wal-mart but there is not a lot of variety there. So when I need something that I can’t find in La Grande, I order it online. I have a few favorite places to make online purchases, and I thought I would share it with you all.
amazon.com – I use amazon for books, movies, CDs, electronics, and more. Shipping is free on most items when you spend over $25 which is a nice feature. Most things on amazon are less expensive than wal-mart or bookstore prices.
ebay.com - Ebay is amazing, the best website for auctions. If you have patience and are a careful shopper you can find great deals. Using paypal gives you buyers insurance so you don’t have to worry about getting ripped off. Ebay is great for hard to find or discontinued items of any kind. It is also great for common items because you can find deals.
goozex.com – Goozex is a video game trading website. You can either purchase trade credits, or trade in your game to someone to earn trade credits. You get used video games for a fraction of the cost that a new game would run. Goozex has also begun trading movies, also for inexpensive prices. For the price of one new game, I have gotten 3-4 used games, and the games have always come in good condition for me.
sephora.com – I go to sephora for all of my makeup needs, they have a large selection of high quality makeup, not the junk drugstore makeup we have out here.
zappos.com – A great website for purchasing shoes. Their return and shipping policies are some of the best I have seen. If the shoe doesn’t fit, you can return it without paying shipping. A large selection of clothing and shoes, with great user reviews of the products.
For clothing purchases, I go to normal department store’s websites, such as Macy’s, Khols, or Old Navy. Almost all major stores have an online store. Doing a google search for coupon codes for whichever online store you are at can come up with great things. Sometimes precent off or free shipping coupon codes are floating around the web.

I’m lucky most of the trading I needed to do on eBay was in the days before their PayPal monopoly hijacked their site. At least now I have favourite sellers that are also power sellers/have parallel stores so I can give ‘em a good old fashioned money order or personal check. A number of book and music sellers moved over to Amazon to avoid the high commissions and keep competative. I actually do my best on-line shopping for collectable items by joining themed forums that have rated buyers and sellers in their classified sections. Yahoo Groups can still really fill in a nicheI try to order stuff via local merchants with on-line stores and connections, but sometimes it can’t be done. Lots of locals at least offer cash and EOU student discounts, so don’t be afraid to ask! Nice to know about zappos and sephora hey, thanks for the information!
