War has come to EOU…The Inglorious N.E.R.F.S. Spring WAR that is!
My name is Chuck Peters. You may or may not have read some of my film reviews here on good ol’ La Grande Life but I’ve got another side of me to show you.
An action side…a foamier side…a side that doesn’t believe in first person shooters belonging only on a game console. NO!
I’m part of the Eastern Oregon University Foam Dart club called “The Inglorious N.E.R.F.S.” and this weekend marked our first ever Spring War.
As a club, we’ve been hosting numerous events every month with our club members and we have been waiting to step out into the sun and be seen in all our geeky glory. February 28th was our red-letter day. We took over the main campus of Eastern Oregon University and played like mad-people on a mission, reloading and firing at any NERFer who moved as we tried out some of our new event games like Coup De Tat, Territories and 28 Days After the Residents Left For Dead.
We were divided into three teams led by three Captains: Jacob Kuwahara for the Green Team, Buck Potter for the Red and Daniel Petznick for the Blue. { Back Track: Each team can score points in the various games and by the end of the day, the winning team takes the day. When that is done, that team gets to select three memmbers to compete in “28…” and see if they can last against 20 + zombies of varying degrees of
difficulty across the campus.} By days end, Red had won the day by scoring an impressive victory over Green and Blue in Coup De Tat and an overtime death match against Blue in Territories. Well done, Team Red.
Basically, in a nut shell filled with NERF ammo, we’ve brought first person shooters off of the console and into the real world. How we’ve done this is by basing shot and game play on the golden rule of honesty (if you didn’t feel it, it didn’t happen). This sometimes can lead to timeouts where a ruling has to be made but for the most part, the teams do a good job of calling when they get hit.
How is else is by trying to make it as inclusive as possible, so anyone can join. Any person
who is interested and wants to tryout may come as a guest. If they are still interested, they can be allowed in by the president on a thirty day probation period where, with in that time frame, they can be removed from the club for disruptive behavior, etc.. After that period is over, they become a full-fledged member and let the rejoicing begin.
The club is always accepting new members and people interested in trying out.
Our club is extremely community minded and is proud to announce our newest sponsor, The Hobby Habit! You can find them across the railroad tracks by Anderson & Perry (411 Fir Street) with a growing NERF arsenal to choose from.
The rules are simple.
The excercise arobic.
The result? Ridiculously fun!
What are you waiting for?!

This all sounds pretty great ! I was a boy scout and we had similar capture the flag-type games. Is there a place somewhere people can keep updated on when events and or meetings are?
There is a fan page.
just search “The Inglourious N.E.R.F.S.” in the facebook search. The address is too long to print.
